    The Unit 114 Barbanel Borah Lifetime Achievement Award created in 2015 as a means of recognizing unit members who have worked tirelessly for decades in the promotion of duplicate bridge within our unit and who additionally are highly accomplished players who meet the qualifications for other high awards such as the Sportsperson of the Year or Goodwill Committee. MDBC Tom Wight wins 2018 Unit 114 Lifetime Achievement Award

 

 

For nearly two decades of bridge playing in Unit 114 and Macon Duplicate Bridge Club(MDBC) has seen a deal of success due to the constant efforts of Tom Wight. For well over ten years he has organized and coordinated three tournaments a year, and this is no mean feat as they have been some of the biggest in the Unit. Despite being an avid competitor and accomplished player, he still finds time to juggle being the CFO of a large company with his love of promoting bridge. He regularly donates his time and effort to teach bridge courses at various levels of expertise. Because of his teachings, MDBC and the unit have gained many young, new players and Tom has made sure that has happened. His willingness to play with less accomplished players has helped many along their road to success and the enjoyment of the game His expertise was much appreciated during this years serving on the MDBC Board of Directors and as their Club President. Unit 114 has gained from his involvement during his years of service as a unit board member and then as the Unit President for the 2008-2009 tern. He was appointed to the District 7 Goodwill Committee in 2009.
